Ofelia’s Story.
When I, Ofelia Hernandez, was a little girl, my childhood wasn’t easy. Still, at the same time, I have beautiful memories. My father got sick and passed away when I was 13 years old. It was difficult. My mother, who I admire very much, worked extremely hard to get everything for us, but there were times when we didn’t have even the basics like sugar, rice, oil, or bread. I remember all the happiness I felt when someone came with two pounds of rice, sugar, or cheese because there was food on our table that day. When I was 21 years old, I left my beautiful country El Salvador to come to this incredible country, the USA. Here, I met and got married to a wonderful person with a wonderful heart, Carlos Hernandez, CHARLIE as his friends used to call him. He knew about my childhood and my wish of helping people in need, and together we helped some families, but it wasn’t until he passed away in 2015, at the age of 54, when I had the fantastic idea of creating a foundation in his name, CHARLIE #1. He really was number 1 in every way.
